Before they're gone,
we paint them.

A boutique Singapore gallery documenting the shophouses, walk-ups, and corner buildings facing en-bloc redevelopment — captured in original pen and modern chinese ink before the wrecking ball arrives.

We believe the streets that raised this country deserve to be remembered in more than just photographs. When a shophouse falls, a piece of memory falls with it. So we paint them — carefully, by hand, in pen and modern chinese ink — the buildings Singapore is about to lose.

The Gallery

Yet Con painting Boon Sing painting

We are a small gallery with one mission — and we take it seriously.

Yan Gallery takes its name from 延 — a Chinese character meaning to extend, to continue, to endure. It speaks to things that carry on. We opened with a single conviction: that Singapore's shophouses, walk-ups, and neighbourhood buildings deserve to be preserved somewhere other than in demolition photographs.

We commission Singapore-based artists to paint buildings at genuine risk of en-bloc redevelopment. Every painting is one-of-one. We do not produce prints. Each work is accompanied by photographs of the site, notes from the artist, and a brief history of the building — so that the collector inherits not just a painting but the memory it holds.

Our collectors include overseas Singaporeans wanting a tangible connection to home, families who once lived in these streets, and quiet supporters of heritage who want the story to survive the bulldozer. If that is you, we would be honoured to speak with you.

Our Artists

Wong Yee Heng

Founding Artist

A Singapore-based painter working in pen and modern chinese ink. Wong paints on location, often returning to the same street over multiple sittings to capture the rhythm of passing traffic and shifting light. His practice focuses on shophouse typology, mid-century walk-ups, and the disappearing streetscapes of inner-city Singapore.

Coming Soon

We are in conversation with several more Singapore artists whose work aligns with our preservation mission. New commissions will be announced here.
